…f & f family room redesign…
The family room is my most troublesome room…never have felt comfortable, hate the couch I bought, tried to make chairs work with the rug by slipcovering…blah, blah, blah. Mr. F&F and I sit there to read the morning paper…he in his chair and I in mine. We stare across at the unused sofa and even encourage [...]
…vintage birds and such…
Here’s what F&F has been up to…it may only be March 6th, but I’m feeling rather March 21st myself… Some other projects just for fun… …and the vintage “Telescope” director chair….I’ve got four, newly recovered…check out the wood patina… With travel to see the folks in Canada this past weekend and upcoming travel EVERY OTHER [...]
…chippy and rusty…
I love things rusty and chippy, and generally old things that can be transformed with new uses. Too “rustic” may not be everyone’s cup of tea but they can be cool when mixed with more refined things. That’s my favorite style right now…mixing it up…gilded and gaudy. Scored some fun things at two auctions and one estate [...]
…purging 101 or letting go of the stuff…
Arrived back in the mountains with a load of stuff to sell at Oddfellows including this ornate settee… It’s a settee I’ve probably had for close to 16 years but it takes up a lot of space in the dining room. Part of January purging is to ”thin out” and look at stuff through a new lens…the lens that [...]
…pseudo refinishing…
I don’t like to refinish, so I avoid it at all costs. PERIOD. Thankfully there are many products on the market that allow you to “cheat” away scratches and other imperfections. Goo Gone (see below) is usually a winner for gooey, gluey kind of stuff, however, this time it didn’t work. A cardboard box had attached [...]
…bedroom makeover reveal…
Finished up my daughter’s bedroom this past week…two and a half weeks total timeline, with travel for Thanksgiving inbetween. Not too bad for a total redo. Told my girl I was setting up for the photo shoot and she started to change into a purple dress, ready for her DeMille moment. Had to explain that I [...]
…a typical day…
I’ve read other bloggers who give a “day-in-the-life” account of their typical day, so I thought I’d try the same. Don’t ask me why I chose today…nothing special, nothing terribly exciting…just a typical day. 6:20 a.m – alarm goes off to make sure kids got up with their alarms…Mr. F&F handles that and I drift back to [...]
…project redos…
…some miscellaneous stuff I’ve been working on…brushed up on my refinishing skills for the top of this cool sideboard… …it was never my intention to buy “projects” but I committed the cardinal sin of auctions…I didn’t do a proper pre-inspection of this sideboard before the auction began. Soooo I ended up with a piece that [...]
…habitat for humanity or thrifting 101 for college boy…
You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink…or insert any familiar proverb with same meaning. Financial literacy is something I’ve strived to teach my children from day one, and especially beginning in earnest in middle school. It comes more naturally to some, I’ve learned. I may as well have been speaking Greek [...]
…new antiques booth asheville, part two…
I LOVE being part of this space – the owners are delightful and the fellow dealers are so interesting. There’s the guy who had a store in Brooklyn and has a treasure trove of mid-century and custom pillows…and another dealer who takes old things and repurposes them in ways I’ve never seen…and another guy who acquires large, unusual [...]

My name is Carole...and this is my blog. I'm an interior redesigner, working primarily with what people already own. My ideal (I can dream big, can't I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures, and if they absolutely need more "stuff", buy only resale items (vintage, antique, flea market or the like). And if it must be new "stuff," it would provide significant function, environmental sustainability, or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I'm on a mission...please join me.
