…scott’s antique market…

milk bottles and crates market indeed…scott’s is the king! I’ve heard about Scott’s Antique Market forever but had never made it down there…in fact, having lived in the south for 24 years I’ve never actually been to Hotlanta for any reason.  With more than 3000 dealers at two exposition centers (both inside and outside), Scott’s  is overwhelming [...]

Late Fall and Art Fun

Arrived in the mountains Thursday, past the peak for leaves, but still managed to see some fall beauty. Starting with the farmer’s market, we spied fall’s bounty of greens and other seasonal veges, some bluegrass music and fall-inspired candles… One tree was still hanging on… An art stroll, down by the river, ordered up some [...]

Scrapel Hill

Scrapel Hill in Chapel Hill…literally stumbled upon this today by mistake.  My favs – big eggs in nest, womanly form in cutlery, street signs cum sculpture, robotic sculptures and on and on…all from scrap material…enjoy… Now through the 18th at University Mall.

Fall Inspiration

Can you guess where I’ve been? …a “bonsai” tutorial and garden sculptures from reused material…can you guess yet? …lots of cute kids around… …animal, vegetable, miracle… …some food and some rides…you’re getting warm… …and the midway, of course… …gotta love the State Fair.

Community

What makes a neighborhood? Is it the walkability? The house? Proximity to services? The neighbors? It means different things to different people. Cooke Street held their annual carnival and it felt like a true celebration of neighbors even to those of us who don’t live there. Artists, kids’ activities, great live music, the best mobile [...]

Finally Fall…

Fall is in the air, especially now that it’s not ninety degrees every darn day. Went apple picking and to an art fair…both inspire my fall decor… …our wagon is full of Cameos, Goldens and Pink Ladies… …time to explore the orchard store and indulge in hot, apple cider donuts…yum… ….then into town and an [...]

College Life

Went to my son’s parent weekend – enjoyed a slice of college life and explored this wonderfully diverse campus. The best ice cream (reputedly in the whole state) is here and it lived up to its name… Walked around campus, enjoying the older architecture and the modern art museum (no pictures allowed there)… …from there [...]

Give Me Liberty…

…or give me nuttin’. Too hot out there today, but still enjoyed the treasures and the always creative vignettes… These Italian leather-covered bottles revived sweet memories for me, and the $5 table had wonderful, small treasures (I scored a five dollar painting)… Couldn’t get enough of this vendor’s colorful, bountiful booth… From lockers to the [...]

Festivals-R-Us

There’s always something happening in this town…er, city. Anyone who still thinks Raleigh is a sleepy, southern town, has to look no further than this past weekend’s SparkCon. In conjunction with the Street Painting Festival, this has evolved into the most eclectic collection of our creative class…young and old, pierced and tatooed, progressive and open-minded. [...]

First Friday

First Friday means stores and galleries stay open late. Yippee! First stop….Father and Son Antiques, a favorite haunt for mid-century treasures. I want to channel my inner Jane Lynch with this find… Do you need a hand? (LOVE these glove molds for jewellry display and more) Eames chair – a find at $800 smackeroos, if [...]

About

Carole MarcotteMy name is Carole...and this is my blog. I'm an interior redesigner, working primarily with what people already own. My ideal (I can dream big, can't I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures, and if they absolutely need more "stuff", buy only resale items (vintage, antique, flea market or the like). And if it must be new "stuff," it would provide significant function, environmental sustainability, or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I'm on a mission...please join me.
