…one king’s lane…
For those of you unfamiliar with One King’s Lane, this is how they describe themselves: “Simply put, One Kings Lane is an elegant, curated online sales site. We bring our members a spectacular, hand-picked selection of top-brand and designer items at up to 70% off suggested retail.” True enough…they are generally more affordable than here [...]
…vintage birds and such…
Here’s what F&F has been up to…it may only be March 6th, but I’m feeling rather March 21st myself… Some other projects just for fun… …and the vintage “Telescope” director chair….I’ve got four, newly recovered…check out the wood patina… With travel to see the folks in Canada this past weekend and upcoming travel EVERY OTHER [...]
…framing prints 101…
Found the motherload of vintage prints this weekend. This homeowner had to be in the art business or I can’t imagine what he had in mind with all these prints…I’m talking hundreds of them, uncut in poster fashion. So imagine six 9×12 prints or eight 5×8 prints all together on one large poster. There were stacks [...]
…chippy and rusty…
I love things rusty and chippy, and generally old things that can be transformed with new uses. Too “rustic” may not be everyone’s cup of tea but they can be cool when mixed with more refined things. That’s my favorite style right now…mixing it up…gilded and gaudy. Scored some fun things at two auctions and one estate [...]
…pseudo refinishing…
I don’t like to refinish, so I avoid it at all costs. PERIOD. Thankfully there are many products on the market that allow you to “cheat” away scratches and other imperfections. Goo Gone (see below) is usually a winner for gooey, gluey kind of stuff, however, this time it didn’t work. A cardboard box had attached [...]
…bedroom makeover reveal…
Finished up my daughter’s bedroom this past week…two and a half weeks total timeline, with travel for Thanksgiving inbetween. Not too bad for a total redo. Told my girl I was setting up for the photo shoot and she started to change into a purple dress, ready for her DeMille moment. Had to explain that I [...]
…great auction finds…
Here’s some of the lovelies found at the Reynolds Price auction and a couple other things found elsewhere…F&F very crowded so having a sale at Hunt and Gather this weekend, running through Halloween evening… Busts are hot rights now and I’ll be damned if I can score them at auction (there were probably ten lots [...]
…project redos…
…some miscellaneous stuff I’ve been working on…brushed up on my refinishing skills for the top of this cool sideboard… …it was never my intention to buy “projects” but I committed the cardinal sin of auctions…I didn’t do a proper pre-inspection of this sideboard before the auction began. Soooo I ended up with a piece that [...]
…industrial decor…
F & F added some new industrial pieces at Hunt & Gather this week. Went to Atlanta to buy and sell at Scott Antique Market this past weekend and brought back some industrial goodies…is Raleigh ready for repurposing industrial into chic decor? We’ll see. The market was great, met a lot of interesting folks, including [...]
…antique treasures…
Here’s what’s going on at F&F retail lately…our antique mall has a HUGE clearance sale going on this weekend (thru 5 pm Sunday, August 28th). A few samples of what F&F has to offer. Enjoy!

My name is Carole...and this is my blog. I'm an interior redesigner, working primarily with what people already own. My ideal (I can dream big, can't I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures, and if they absolutely need more "stuff", buy only resale items (vintage, antique, flea market or the like). And if it must be new "stuff," it would provide significant function, environmental sustainability, or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I'm on a mission...please join me.
