…nyc…
Flew into the city yesterday and met my sisters for a matinee performance of Clybourne Park. Brilliant, simply brilliant. With a limited run, if you happen to be in NYC the next few months, I highly recommend it. It reminds me of why I love theatre, why theatre can do what only live performances can [...]
…d.c. architecture, art and assorted…
I love exploring D.C. and especially love that it feels different from other U.S. cities, in part due to the Heights of Buildings Act passed in 1899. Almost European feeling with both old and new architecture in the mix…I sometimes feel vaguely Parisian… I love the many friendly places suited for congregating and relaxing… Different things [...]
…los angeles farmer’s market…
Started the day exploring the Silver Lake neighborhood east of Hollywood, had a tasty brunch at Millies which has been around since 1926, and visited a couple antique stores before heading over to LA’s original farmer’s market. The farmer’s market at Fairfax and Third has operated since 1934…it’s such a classic market with stalls selling fruits, meats, nuts [...]
…the getty villa & miscellany…
No design inspiration trip would be complete without a visit to the Getty Villa…sister museum to the Getty Center. J. Paul Getty purchased sixty-four acres in Malibu in 1945 and, in 1954, opened a museum in his home to showcase a collection featuring Greek and Roman antiquities. In 1968 Getty decided to recreate a first-century Roman [...]
…the getty center & a west hollywood home tour…
Yesterday was a nice break from shopping, but my tours were still very much in the name of design. First stop, the Getty Center, an ode to modern architecture but with ancient treasures inside. Had a lovely day with my friend who came up from Orange County… In front of the J.C. bust, a security guard [...]
…La Cienega Design Quarter…
La Cienega is the destination for designers and collectors alike…albeit those with deep pockets. I enjoyed strolling the avenue and was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was, though I’d been warned otherwise. From the shop girl who attended a small North Carolina college to Jamie from South Carolina to discussing politics with another, [...]
…still dreaming of spring…
Well, I don’t have to dream anymore when it’s 82 fricking degrees outside and it’s the ides of March. It’s too damn hot for my liking and I’m dreaming of spring because we’ve jumped right to summer. Sorry, peri-menopause makes you me grouchy when it’s hot. TMI. In Asheville for a jam-packed 48 hours of [...]
…vintage birds and such…
Here’s what F&F has been up to…it may only be March 6th, but I’m feeling rather March 21st myself… Some other projects just for fun… …and the vintage “Telescope” director chair….I’ve got four, newly recovered…check out the wood patina… With travel to see the folks in Canada this past weekend and upcoming travel EVERY OTHER [...]
…framing prints 101…
Found the motherload of vintage prints this weekend. This homeowner had to be in the art business or I can’t imagine what he had in mind with all these prints…I’m talking hundreds of them, uncut in poster fashion. So imagine six 9×12 prints or eight 5×8 prints all together on one large poster. There were stacks [...]
…client work…
Catching up on documenting 2011 work…caught up with some clients today. I love hanging groups of pictures and The “L” family had lots of art work. The family lived in Asia for a period of time and the hallway connecting the family room to the living room contained their Asian collection… I arranged the artwork in [...]

My name is Carole...and this is my blog. I'm an interior redesigner, working primarily with what people already own. My ideal (I can dream big, can't I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures, and if they absolutely need more "stuff", buy only resale items (vintage, antique, flea market or the like). And if it must be new "stuff," it would provide significant function, environmental sustainability, or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I'm on a mission...please join me.
